It’s that time again! When the winter close get packed away and the desperate work on a summer body begins! And while we see more skin and sunshine on a regular basis, we also have more reason than ever to pack into dark, air-conditioned rooms, watching blockbuster movie magic explode onto the big screen.

The 2017 summer movie selection is a smorgasbord of good choices, from mainstream blockbuster sequels like Pirates of the Caribbean and Transformers, to big comic book movies like Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Wonder Woman and a new Marvel version of Spider-Man.

In the following pages we’ll have a list of every big movie we’re anticipating this summer – along with user rankings to let you know what the excitement level is for each respective movie. If you see any rankings you don’t like, feel free to Vote on that movie to change the rating!

Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 (May 5th)

Marvel is going to make ALL the monies with its cosmic comedy sequel. As you can see, anticipation is at an all-time high, and first reviews from press are overwhelmingly positive. 

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (May 12th)

Snatch and Sherlock director Guy Ritchie has created a ball-to-the-wall crazy re-imagining of the King Arthur legend, but with each new trailer, the concept looks a little more exciting onscreen. The question is: has the marketing done enough to bring a sizable  audience to the theater? 

Alien: Covenant (May 19th)

Alien fans have been waiting for the franchise to get back on the right foot, and Alien: Covenant will supposedly be the answer to their prayers. The film bridges Prometheus and the original Alien with a gore-filled story about a crew of would-be colonizers, who land on the wrong planet. Xenomorph mayhem ensues. 

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (May 26th)

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has gone on for a long time, but truthfully, Dead Men Tell No Tales looks more like everything we loved about the original Pirates movie, and less of what we disliked about the sequels. With the original cast of Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightely all showing up, this will be a milestone sequel, indeed. 

Baywatch (May 26th)

Comedic reboots of old TV shows can go either way. They can be great (21 Jump Street), or they can be not so great (Starsky and Hutch). With Dwayne Johnson and Zac Effron squaring off in the lead, Baywatch seems like it will be some good fun. 

Wonder Woman (June 2nd)

The DC Extended Universe has had a hard time of things, thanks to the divisiveness of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, and the general disdain for Suicide Squad. Wonder Woman is supposed to be the turnaround point – the moment when the DCEU stars on a more hopeful and heroic path. From what we’ve seen behind-the-scenes, it may just achieve that goal.  

The Mummy (June 9th)

Universal Pictures will try to follow-up the runaway success of Fate of the Furious by trying to launch its shared universe of classic movie monsters. Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe are on hand to make it happen, with geek favorite Alex Kurtzman sitting in the director’s chair. If nothing else, this looks like some classic blockbuster movie goodness. 

Cars 3 (June 16th)

Pixar has gone surprisingly dark with its third chapter of the Cars franchise, with this “Old vs. Young” story of Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) trying to outrace a new generation of fast cars. Cars has never really been Pixar’s best franchise, but this third chapter looks to have some unexpected depth. 

Transformers: The Last Knight (June 23rd)

It’s another Michael Bay Transformers movie. You know what they are, and what you’re going to get. Spend your money accordingly. 

Despicable Me 3 (June 30th)

The Despicable Me franchise has been one of the better new animated properties to come out in the last few years, and the minions show no sign of slowing their roll with this latest chapter. 

Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7th)

Spider-Man: Homecoming will bring Sony’s Spider-Man property into the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and so far, the footage from trailers has looked pretty good. Actor Tom Holland is a perfect fit in the role, and the Marvel influence is clearly working much better than what saw from Amazing Spider-Man 2 at this point in its development. Our Spider Senses are tingling in the best way…

FullMetal Alchemist (July 12th)

This live-action adaptation of the popular anime will be hitting theaters overseas; but with a massive fanbase in West, we expect FullMetal Alchemist will have some nice crossover appeal. 

War for the Planet of the Apes (July 14th)

This Apes trilogy has been the dark horse that no one ever saw coming – and it looks like War for the Planet of the Apes will ride that dark horse to an epic finale, with two machine guns blazing. 

Dunkirk (July 21st)

Christopher Nolan will leave superhero costumes and wild sci-fi concepts behind, for this story of doomed allied soldiers, surrounded on all sides by Axis forces. Having previewed the film ourselves, we can say: the tension levels in Dunkirk will be through the roof. 

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (July 21st)

Luc Besson hasn’t made a sci-fi movie this eye-popping and fantastical since The Fifth Element – but that movie was so unique and fun that we have all the reason to be excited for Valerian, as well.  

Atomic Blonde (July 28th)

Charlize Theron is about to get her John Wick on in this action movie vehicle – with some assistance from John Wick co-director, David Leitch. The stuntwork and set pieces look awesome, and Theron is a total bombshell badass in the role of Lorraine Broughton.  

The Dark Tower (August 4th)

Stephen King’s epic literary saga has been trying to make it up onto the big screen for many, many, years – but now its finally happening, thanks to Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, and Girl With the Dragon Tattoo director Nikolaj Arcel. It’s hard to place expectations on this film, but we’re hoping the long wait will have been worth it. 

Annabelle: Creation (Aug 11th)

The Annabelle: Creation spinoff franchise is getting another chapter – and thanks to the talent of director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out), it looks pretty damn scary.
