Hoping to help some people out as they get in the mood for Halloween and spooky season, US star Lupita Nyong’o has taken to social media to reveal the series of movies that director Jordan Peele made her watch to prepare for the film. For horror movie fans that know the titles some of these may not come as a surprise, but the fact that some very extreme movies made the cut (and Nonyg’o watched them!) really shows how serious they took the making of the 2019 hit. We’ve collated the ten titles below along with where you can watch each of them on streaming.

As a filmmaker Peele has been open about his influences with all his movies, specifically mentioning movies like Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and King Kong as movies that shaped his latest feature film Nope. Even with movies that make sense as inspirations, Peele also manages to pull from other titles that might sound wild at first but actually make sense. Take for example the influence that both Akira and Neon Genesis Evangelion also had on Nope, it sounds wild before you see the movie but the influence is there. The same thing could be said for some of the below titles that Lupita Nyong’o watched to prep for her roles of Adelaide and Red. Check them out!
